Transitioning from Practice to Practical Application
Few things are more critical to our development than the ability to reframe "failures" as necessary steps to our growth, and the ability to destigmatize taking those missteps in front of others is an essential component of that process. This is why it is recommended that all players at Hopkins Basketball engage in both private and group workouts, as consistent exposure to both training settings is what facilitates the translation of individual skill work to more complex team settings.
Group lessons at Hopkins Basketball provide players with a safe, controlled space to practice new skills against live competition. Unlike most competitive settings, players taking part in our group lessons are encouraged to make mistakes, and are provided with thoughtful feedback that allows them to push past the limits of their respective comfort zones. The atmosphere that results from this combination of cognitive engagement and judgment-free coaching provides fertile ground for the development of not only the physical and mental capacities required of a capable athlete, but also the creation of a positive self-image and a constructive approach to learning new and difficult skills.
